Oregano

Oregano is also known as Balkan /forest/ tea and this proves its widespread distribution in Bulgaria. It can be found anywhere up to 2000 m altitude and the purple pink colour of the petals is typical for it. It is well-known and recognised for expectoration, colic and inflammations of the gastrointestinal tract. Oregano tea cures bronchitis, whets the appetite and successfully fights liver diseases. It can also be administered externally – “oregano water” is poured on itching skin and eczemas.
Oregano contains up to one percent essential oil and this makes it a preferred ingredient for preparation of tinctures and creams. In cooking, it has been used as a culinary herb for more than a century.
Oregano tea or Balkan tea cures palpitation and headache but you can also drink it if you feel a headache coming or if you suffer from insomnia.
